DELUGAN MEISSL ASSOCIATED ARCHITECTS, Wien
The Aedes exhibition ‘inTENSE repose’ shows the work of the innovative Viennese architectural partnership Delugan Meissl Associated Architects and was created in co-operation with ZUMTOBEL. This great show – which opens a new dimension of exhibition design – will tour many cities in Austria, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands before being presented in October at the new venue of Aedes at Pfefferberg. Prior to the Berlin presentation, the Aedes exhibition, and the accompanying Aedes catalogue, will be part of the Hamburg Architectural Summer at the iCP (Institute for Cultural Policy). The exhibition will be shown in New York, Zurich, Milan and other cities in the course of the coming year.
Delugan Meissl was founded in Vienna in 1993 by Elke Delugan-Meissl (born 1959) and Roman Delugan (born 1963) and joined in 2004 by Partners Dietmar Feistel, Martin Josst and Christopher Schweiger, from then on reconstituted as Delugan Meissl Associated Architects. The team does not see space – a priori – as static, but rather as dynamic and variable interaction between people and their environment. Space is interpreted in terms of different velocities. Architecture implies the moment of mobility – a body movement in tense repose – initiating at the same time people’s comprehension of these movements with all their senses. The fascinating projects of the team as a result of this approach are outstanding regarding their aesthetic quality and also in terms of their innovative open, flowing spatial and facade developments.
‘inTENSE repose’ presents a cross section of Delugan Meissl’s work of the past twelve years. Nineteen very different projects are illustrated with plans and models on a back-lit multi-media surface and also juxtaposed on a large table, among them the Film Museum in Amsterdam (2009), the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart (2007), the Panorama Lift in Salzburg (2003) and a private residence in Vienna (Rayl House, 2003).
