Video-Salon OUT OF DISASTER
Video-Salon OUT OF DISASTER
As part of ART SPACES - the architecture and film festival at the Brotfabrik - the Video-Salon OUT OF DISASTER will be installed at the Architekturforum Aedes am Pfefferberg, Christinenstr. 18-19, 10119 Berlin, from 31 August to 10 September 2006.
Disasters - natural disasters, wars, revolutions, terror - and their far-reaching consequences have been part of everyday life in all parts of the world since time immemorial. For a certain period of time everything is set in motion, social, political and religious hierarchies are shaken, orders become chaos. The spectacle of the catastrophe and its media staging are of ambivalent attraction. On the one hand, the notion of catastrophe and the apocalypse associated with it is one of man's most primal fears, and on the other hand, the hope of creating something new out of the catastrophe results from it. The media reproduction of architecture and catastrophe ranges from threat scenarios, the depiction of the catastrophe, crisis management and individual survival strategies to post-apocalypse and utopian visions. "Out of Disaster" deals with destruction, construction and vision in film, architecture and art. The Video Salon presents video works that deal with disaster as a formal means of destruction, but also question the documentation and media representation of September 11th.
With video works by N.I.C.J.O.B., Sabine Bitter/Helmut Weber, Christoph Draeger, Holger Lippmann/Aleksos Hofstetter, Tony Oursler and others
