Come and build with us! A hands-on workshop for children aged 8–12 who are keen on screws, saws and ropes.
As part of the exhibition Huts, Temples, Castles on the theme of adventure playgrounds, we will be building a live installation with children and working on the question: What kind of free spaces do children and young people want in the city? The installation will be part of the exhibition and is intended to encourage visitors to look for free spaces in the city themselves.
The exhibition by photographer Ursula Schulz-Dornburg from 1969 about Jongensland, a playground for hut-building and adventure in the Netherlands, will be shown in the Studio of Aedes Architecture Forum. Initiated by Aedes, a building project will be realised in the exhibition space together with children and young people: Under the title Dwelling and Free Space, they will be asked, against the background of the photographs, how a dwelling must be designed in order to create private spaces of retreat as well as new free spaces. In a three-day workshop, they will plan and build with the children and young people. In this way, a 1:1 experiment is created in the exhibition: together, the space is measured, zoned, ideas are developed and construction elements are mounted on ropes. The principle of hanging building elements creates a changed perception of building, space and its use – and is intended to invite experimentation.
