BMW Event and Delivery Center, Munich
Aedes presents the results of the competition initiated by BMW and the City of Munich for the BMW Event and Delivery
Center. The idea for the Center will be a central communication and
meeting point for both customers and the general public.
In an open competition 27 architecture offices have been elected
anonymously out of a number of 275 participants. In the following 2. phase
of the competion 8 architects have been selected, as there are: Auer and
Weber (Munich), COOP HIMMELB(L)AU (Vienna), Sauerbruch Hutton
(Berlin), Feichtinger Architects (Paris), MVRDV (Rotterdam), Morphosis
(Santa Monica), Triad Architects, Karl Karau with Bernd Lampe, Dirk
Bertuleit and Sandra Töpfer (Berlin) and Zaha Hadid (London).
The two first prizes have been awarded to Sauerbruch Hutton (Berlin) and
to COOP HIMMELB(L)AU (Vienna). The designs that came third and fourth
were produced by the architectural practices of Zaha Hadid Ltd. and
Morphosis. In December 2001 the Board of Management of BMW AG
decided to follow the idea of COOP HIMMELB(L)AU, a convincing project
because of its clear identification with and its correlation to the Corporate
Identity of BMW. The project goes hand in hand in a visionary combination
with the Olympic Complex and the BMW highrise. The character of the
building itself reveals flexibility and transparency.
The remarkable result of this competion is also a very interesting outlook on
the contemporary architecture scene: 27 designs of both young and
promising talents as well as internationally renowned architects are
displayed in the exhibition. The prosperity of the manifold solutions is
surprising and fascinating concerning the level of architecture nowadays.
Speakers at the opening will be:
Kristin Feireiss, Berlin
Richard Gaul, BMW
Group, Munich
Peter Kulka, Chairman of the Jury, Cologne
