Günter Behnisch’s 80th Birthday Celebration
Günter Behnisch will be eighty in June.
A number of his projects, most of
them realised together with partners, are known world-wide: for example the
facilities for the Olympic Games in Munich (1972) and the Plenary Complex
for the German Bundestag in Bonn (1992). Many of his school and
university buildings, among them the Technical College in Ulm (1963) or the
Hysolar Institute in Stuttgart (1987), but also the University Library in
Eichstätt (1987), the Post Museum in Frankfurt on Main (1990) and
numerous other projects have become milestones in architecture.
The exhibition in Aedes West does, however, not only focus on built
architecture of Günter Behnisch, but also on the creative process and
environment in which architecture develops. Snapshots show Günter
Behnisch together with his colleagues and his family. Personal documents and items
give a more personal impression of Günter Behnisch, someone who makes
architecture dance and who always puts the people who live and work in
his buildings in the foreground.
The exhibition will be opened by Dr. Julian Nida-Rümelin, Minister of Cultural
Affairs.
